Core Activities Driving Project Impact
About the Project
InnovAIte Slovakia is a Transformation-Innovation Consortium that accelerates trustworthy artificial intelligence from concept to commercial solution.
Bringing together Slovak universities, research centres, technology companies and two world-class excellence partners, we foster ethical and sustainable AI that strengthens the economy and improves daily life.
Our 30-month roadmap is supported by the Recovery & Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic and aligned with the European AI and Data Acts. By pairing top-tier research with industry needs, we turn scientific insight into tangible benefits for business, society and the environment.
Work Package 1
WP1 establishes and maintains the operational backbone of the InnovAIte Slovakia project. It ensures robust project governance across all administrative, scientific, financial, and data-related dimensions. Using internationally recognised project management principles (PRINCE2), WP1 drives coordination, quality assurance, and risk management across the consortium. It also fosters international collaboration and excellence by facilitating structured knowledge transfer from global AI leaders into the Slovak innovation ecosystem.
Work Package 2
WP2 leads the communication and dissemination strategy of InnovAIte Slovakia, ensuring wide visibility of the project’s goals, results, and societal relevance. It builds awareness, engages target audiences, and promotes long-term sustainability by aligning messaging across all partners and platforms. From project branding and press visibility to expert conferences and newsletters, WP2 is key to reaching diverse stakeholders and extending project impact beyond its duration.
Work Package 3
WP3 provides the theoretical backbone of the InnovAIte Slovakia project. It focuses on developing ethical, explainable, fair, and secure foundations for AI systems to be implemented across sectors such as energy, mobility, software, and insurance. Through interdisciplinary research, WP3 enhances the understanding of algorithmic behavior, decision-making processes, and human-AI interaction. The outputs help guide practical AI applications in other work packages and position Slovakia as a leader in responsible AI research.
Work Package 4
WP4 pioneers the integration of AI into building energy management, creating an intelligent superstructure on top of existing Energy Management Systems (EMS). With a focus on carbon footprint reduction, economic viability, and smart automation, this work package leverages cutting-edge AI/ML techniques — particularly reinforcement learning — to monitor, predict, and optimize building operations. Real-world pilot validations and direct engagement with energy stakeholders ensure both technical robustness and practical relevance.
Work Package 5
WP5 focuses on developing and deploying AI-powered video analytics to enhance safety in both road traffic and smart building environments. The work combines synthetic data generation from 3D virtual scenes with advanced edge AI algorithms for object detection, human activity recognition, and anomaly detection. This cross-domain initiative addresses challenges in data availability, system responsiveness, and privacy by enabling local AI processing on edge devices and leveraging HPC resources for training. Applications range from detecting hazardous traffic situations to monitoring security threats in smart facilities.
Work Package 6
WP6 investigates how artificial intelligence can automate and enhance various stages of the software development lifecycle — from requirements engineering and architecture design to maintenance and testing. The work also addresses critical security aspects, particularly regarding sensitive code submissions to AI models. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline software delivery, improve code quality, and enable more efficient and intelligent development practices across enterprise environments.
Work Package 7
WP7 applies cutting-edge AI methodologies to transform insurance operations, with an emphasis on ethical, transparent, and efficient automation. This work package addresses key challenges in risk assessment, claims processing, fraud detection, and customer service. Through explainable AI (XAI) models and responsible deployment practices, WP7 lays the groundwork for innovation in Slovakia’s insurance sector while maintaining regulatory compliance and building public trust. The initiative also promotes labor force upskilling and introduces new professional roles tailored to the digital insurance age.
Work Package 8
WP8 acts as the final bridge between research and commercial application, advancing AI solutions from Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4–5 to TRL 6–7. This work package focuses on validation, adaptation, and real-world deployment of AI prototypes across multiple domains including energy, traffic safety, software engineering, and insurance. It culminates in the creation of a joint startup and defines a framework for customization, ownership, and ethical compliance. WP8 is the commercialization engine of the InnovAIte project, aligning interdisciplinary research with practical industry needs.
